Dudes, I am good now + Sci-fi fandom stuff

Okay, so I feel like a SHIT TON better about SPN. That was like the craziest episode reaction ever. It kind of makes me dread the idea of the show ending, I mean if that was my reaction to like the greatest season finale of all time I really really don't want to know what it's going to be like for the series finale. *knocks on wood*

Anyway, on another couple of fandom related notes, I've been getting into Star Trek. I'm a huge sci-fi geek and after watching Battlestar Galactica (yes, that's part of what I was up to during the last like three months,) I was kind of running out of things to watch.

So I liked BSG, but it was weird, because although there are sooo many people who say it's like the best sci-fi show ever, I've got to disagree. I think one of the reasons I was a little eh about it was because it was like NOTHING but mytharc episodes. One of the reasons I love Buffy, and Supernatural are because even though they have really heavy plotty mytharc episodes(SPN more than Buffy) they know the value of keeping it light. By throwing in those MotW eps they break up the strangling tension. While BSG did throw in a few episodes that were slightly different, they all ultimately were for the good of the overall mytharc.

I also probably didn't like the show as much as others because I wasn't a fan of the series finale. What happened with Starbuck in the last season really pissed me off. She was my favorite character and although her part was super important and I like how they integrated her as the key to the whole thing, having her just kind of shrivel up into this sort-of single-purpose character bothered me. I wanted more depth and a better ending for her.

Anyway, enough about BSG, as much as I enjoyed watching it, now that it's over it's kind of left a bad taste in my mouth.

So as I was saying I've been watching Star Trek TNG. I actually wasn't sure where to start when it came to getting into Star Trek, but after some advice from my family I'm almost to the season 1 finale of TNG. I like the show so far although I don't really like how there isn't an over-arcing mythos like in the newer Sci-fi/fantasy shows; but I assume either that will come later, or the character stories will make up for it.

I think I'll just have to wait and see where the show takes me. ;)

You know until I finished watching BSG it never really occurred to me just how much I like the Sci-fi/Fantasy genre. My mom was talking to me about it and she said how I always enjoyed those types of shows so it got me to thinking and I realized that like the majority of my favorite tv shows are Sci-fi and Fantasy.

So I decided to make a list. Here are my top ten Sci-fi/Fantasy shows:

1.) Supernatural
2.) Buffy
3.) Angel
4.) Stargate Atlantis
5.) Doctor Who*
6.) Merlin
7.) Firefly
8.) Dead Like Me
9.) Torchwood
10.) Stargate SG-1

*Doctor Who is like amazing and the only reason I put it this far down on the list, is because although I absolutely love the show, I don't really read fic or anything about it. Plus even though it really is a sci-fi show, there are a lot more than just sci-fi genres thrown in there.

This list will forever change and expand, but here it is right now.

Anyway, so that's some thoughts on TV & Sci-fi stuff, now I'm off to hopefully clean my room. *grumbles*

Comments

Some shows, the fandom for them is not where I want to be. As long as I have one or two good friends I can chat with about the show I'm good. Other shows, *cough*SGA*cough*, the fandom is so much better than the show that I can't imagine not being in it. :)

Importantly, I'm glad you're feeling better.

I do understand about End of Show Depression. I am NOT looking forward to SPN actually going off the air. Not after all the awesome I've gotten to experience with it and the fandom.
You know now that you say that, I think it's a combination of the SPN fandom, the show, and the real life memories I have during the years that Supernatural has been on the air. It's kind of like all of those are so amazing that I think when the show is finally gone I wouldn't know how to deal with it.

*whimper*
